Drinking--a stumbling block

I do not understand why people drink alcohol, and I really do not understand why Christians do. It seems to me that more and more church members drink. Oh, I have heard all the “rationalizing” about why drinking is all right.

There is one reason for sure why it is not. It is a stumbling block. In Romans 15:13 Paul urged THAT NO MAN PUT A STUMBLING BLOCK…IN HIS BROTHER’S WAY. In 1 Corinthians 8:9 he said, BUT TAKE HEED LEST BY ANY MEANS THIS LIBERTY OF YOURS BECOMES A STUMBLING BLOCK TO THEM THAT ARE WEAK.

Drinking is a stumbling block. Even if your drinking is not a stumbling block to a brother, it does hurt your witness. Why would anyone walking down the path of righteousness want to hurt his witness?

For some reason I seem to know more about Christian brothers than I probably should. I know some who drink. They do not know that I know and probably would not want me to.

But I pray for them. I pray that when they put a drop of alcohol to their lips that it will taste like the vinegar they gave Jesus to drink when He was dying on the cross. THEY GAVE ME GALL FOR MY MEAT AND IN MY THIRST THEY GAVE ME VINEGAR (Psalm 69:21).
